What’s New in the Kentucky Taxpayer Portal?

What’s New in the Kentucky Taxpayer Portal?

The Kentucky Department of Revenue introduced its revamped Taxpayer Portal at MyTaxes.ky.gov in March, unifying key tax-related functions previously housed on the Kentucky Online Gateway (KOG) and the WRAPS (Withholding Reporting And Payment System). This update streamlines access for businesses managing registrations, filings, and payments.

Streamlined Access to Key Business Taxes

Currently, the portal supports filing and payment for 10 types of business taxes, including:

  • Sales and Use Tax
  • Kentucky Withholding Tax
  • Corporate Income/Limited Liability Entity Tax
  • Utility Gross Receipts License Tax (UGRLT)
  • CMRS (Commercial Mobile Radio Services)
  • Transient Room Tax
  • Telecommunications Tax
  • Motor Vehicle Tire Fee
  • Non-Resident Income Withholding Tax

Other business taxes remain accessible via the Department of Revenue’s main website at revenue.ky.gov.

Improved User Dashboard and Profile Management

Upon logging in, users are greeted with a consolidated view of all active tax accounts, displaying key details such as:

  • Account ID
  • Last activity date
  • Balance due
  • Last filed period

Profile updates—including address, phone, email, and Responsible Party information—can now be handled with ease. The portal’s Service Request feature enables businesses to request account changes, notify the state of closures, or obtain letters of good standing and refunds.

Enhanced Features for Transparency and Control

New additions to the portal include:

  • Outstanding Debts section displaying balances due or overpayments
  • Access to Correspondence History and Inbox Messages confirming submission of returns and payments
  • A comprehensive FAQ section addressing common user questions

Filing and Payment Made Easier

Under the Transactions tab, users initiate filings and payments. The portal auto-fills relevant tax data, allowing users to select and confirm entries through intuitive, step-by-step screens. Once submitted, payment can be made quickly via e-check or credit/debit card.

A Minor Limitation to Note

At present, the system does not allow users to cancel or modify scheduled payments directly online. Instead, changes must be requested via email at PortalHelp@ky.gov. Refund requests can still be submitted through the Service Request feature.

Final Thoughts

After using the new portal extensively over the past two months, we can confidently say it consolidates numerous capabilities into a much more user-friendly platform. Support from the Department of Revenue has been timely and helpful.
