Kentucky Department of Revenue - Change in Tax Deadline

On March 20, 2020, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin announced that the April 15th deadline for filing federal income tax returns and making payments is extended to July 15, 2020. Kentucky Governor, Andy Beshear announced that Kentucky will follow the lead of the federal government. However, there are a few things that you need to know.

  • The income tax filing deadline for the 2019 Kentucky income tax has been extended from April 15, 2020 to July 15, 2020.
  • 2019 Kentucky income returns filed by July 15, 2020 will have late filing penalties waived.
  • Kentucky income tax payments due on April 15, 2020 are deferred for 90 days to July 15, 2020.
  • Due to Kentucky law, interest still applies to the deferred income tax payments, but late payment penalties will be waived.
  • The Kentucky relief is applicable only to income taxes and does not apply to other tax obligations.
