Peer Review
In today's economy, there is a significant public interest in the auditing and accounting profession. With today's interests as its foundation, for nearly two decades the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) has required member firms to obtain peer reviews. As a result, the profession's self-regulatory process offers assurance that auditing and accounting firms are adhering to the highest professional standards or, where peer reviews show otherwise, corrective actions are voluntarily taken and monitored.
Baldwin & Associates, PLLC welcomes the opportunity to conduct other CPA firms' peer reviews. Alan Long and Myron Fisher are both seasoned auditors and accounting practitioners and are also specially trained and experienced peer reviewers. Baldwin & Associates, PLLC has performed several dozen peer reviews since the firm's inception in 1996. A substantial majority of firms enrolled in the peer review program are practice units much like Baldwin & Associates, PLLC in terms of firm size and organization, types of services provided, and industry segments in which firm clients operate. Thus, the background and current experiences of Alan Long and Myron Fisher match the profile of many firms, an important requirement for peer reviews. Client industries served by Baldwin & Associates, PLLC include not-for-profit organizations, local government units, school districts, construction, financial institutions, and retail trade companies, professional service practices, and employee benefit plans. Excellent professional relationships with several other peer reviewers also allow Baldwin & Associates, PLLC to assemble a review team with experience in additional specialized or atypical industries.
Alan Long served as Chair of the Kentucky Society of CPAs Peer Review Committee in 2001-2003, for which he was recognized with an Outstanding Committee Chair Award in June 2003. In January 2003, he was appointed to a three-year term on the AICPA Peer Review Board. This led to his appointment as chair of the Peer Review Board's Oversight Task Force in November 2003, responsible for oversight of the peer review program's administration by over forty entities (state CPA societies or associations). This experience has proven invaluable not only to Baldwin & Associates, PLLC, but to firms engaging us for their triennial peer review.
